Abstract

Recent studies focused on GIŠ.ḪUR in Hittite texts. Two opposed interpretations have been put forward: “wooden (waxed) tablet” and “document”. We propose that GIŠ.ḪUR indicates primarily an official document and might also indicate synecdochally a medium.
